Foodie Friday: Modmarket

I think our team has determined our new favorite way to do Foodie Friday – BREAKFAST! After hearing from so many people how great the new Modmarket in Flower Mound is (near the new Academy off FM 2499 AND FM 407), we decided it was about time we headed out there to try it for ourselves. And we figured we’d switch it up a little by going out for breakfast!

If you’re not familiar with Modmarket, it’s a Colorado-based company that was founded in 2009 by Anthony Pigliacampo and Rob McColgan. They currently have 10 restaurants open and Flower Mound was their first location outside of the state of Colorado! How cool is that? They also have other locations opening in the next 6 months in Plano, Preston Hollow and Southlake.

Anthony and Rob wanted to create a restaurant where they could serve farm fresh, healthy food made from simple, whole ingredients. They serve everything from salads, soups and sandwiches to pizzas, homestyle plates and (as we experienced) breakfast!

I had a chance to chat with Chef Nate Weir about their food philosophy and he said they’re thrilled to be able to bring farm-to-table fine dining to the masses and introduce people to foods they may not already be familiar with. While they’re happy to have foodies and food connoisseurs come in and eat with them, they get even more excited when people come in to experience something they’ve never experienced before. And with his specialized training in farm to table dining, Chef Nate is the perfect man to develop these dishes for us to enjoy!

As soon as we walked in the restaurant, the smells instantly made our mouths water and we couldn’t wait to try out some of their most popular breakfast dishes!

But before we got to breakfast, they were packaging up some of their desserts and gave us some samples of their Golden Brownies to try. If you’re from the South and are a fan of Buttermilk Pie, you will LOVE these things. They are perfectly sweet and gooey without being overly rich.

Ok, so back to breakfast. Traci ordered the Spinach Bacon Scramble with a side of fruit, I ordered the Rocket Egg (cage free eggs, basil aioli, arugula, tomato and provolone served on a Ciabatta bun) and Kari ordered the Apple Pear Waffle which is an apple/pear compote served over a whole grain waffle with pure maple syrup.

Everything was so delicious and you could truly taste the freshness of the ingredients and we enjoyed the overall lightness and deliciousness of the farm fresh dishes.

And then after we were finished, they brought out another of their famous breakfast dishes for us to sample – the Southwest Tofu Scramble which has sesame & ginger spiced tofu, roasted corn, black beans, pepper jack cheese, organic red sauce, avocado and comes served with roasted potatoes and toast. I’m not normally a tofu kind of guy, but this scramble was absolutely delicious and I would eat this again for breakfast in a heartbeat.

AND they also cater – so if you’re in need of any type of catering for meetings, luncheons, parties, etc. give them a call! Your guests will definitely thank you!

Sandwiches & Salad

When we asked Manager Eric Obrien what message he’d like us to deliver to local residents, he just told us how appreciative the whole staff and company has been with with the warm welcoming they’ve received from Flower Mound. Eric has been with the company for about three years and was excited to make the move to Texas to bring us the culture and food of Modmarket – and loves that everyone else appreciates their move here as well!

I am so happy that we finally gave this place a try and that we decided to go for breakfast. Now I can head back to try out their lunch and dinner menu! If you guys are looking for something healthy, fresh and delicious to eat this weekend, you NEED to head to Modmarket this weekend!

Have a super FRESH weekend, Foodies!
