School is officially out for the summer! How many of you are ready for the kids to go back to school already? Raise your hands….
I’ve mentioned before some of the fun things happening this summer in Flower Mound, like movies at the CAC’s pool, Independence Fest, events at the CAC’s outdoor water park, etc. But there are lots of other great things you can do this summer to keep you and your kids busy, including volunteering at places around town.
The Town of Flower Mound offers several volunteer opportunities for residents where you can work alongside public professionals to deliver some of the Town’s services.
Flower Mound encourages residents to volunteer in order to:
- Encourage and provide an opportunity for citizen participation
- Improve the quality of life through expanded services, without additional taxation
- Enhance services by utilizing volunteers to supplement the efforts of Town staff
- Promote and assist citizen’s understanding of municipal government
- Provide mentorship for up and coming professionals and students
Over the summer is a great time for you to take some time and volunteer at one of the town’s departments including: Library, Parks and Recreation, Animal Services, Financial Services, Citizen Emergency Response Team (Fire) and Citizen Patrol (Police).
There are all kinds of tasks available ranging from project-based work to clerical to help with special events. And people from all over the community are eligible to volunteer. You just need to be at least 15 years of age and submit the volunteer application that can be found here. Or you can pick one up at the Human Resources office at Town Hall.
Summer is a wonderful time to have fun and enjoy spending time together as a family – and volunteering together is a great way to spend some quality time with each other!
When you figure out what you’d like to do, let us know how you’re helping contribute to our town and take some pictures if you can!
Let’s all go help make the world a better place!
