Foodie Friday: Our First Foodie Friday Road Trip!

We totally mixed things up this week and decided to start a little something new with Foodie Friday! And we hope you’re excited about this as we are. To expand our (and your) eating horizons, we instituted a Foodie Friday Road Trip and headed up north to Denton Square for some delicious burgers at Lone Star Attitude Burger Company.

It’s a little extra drive for those of us who live in southern Denton County, but I can assure you that LSA’s food and environment are well worth it!

A gourmet burger joint, LSA first opened its doors in November of 2013 within the old Denton County Hamburgers location – and they did a TON of work to bring their own unique vibe and feel to the space. They added a rooftop patio perfect for their live music on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays with the old courthouse in the background. And the whole restaurant pays homage to Texas’ music legends, from its decor to its menu items.

And that Texas music vibe makes total sense considering it was thought up by singer-songwriter Jon Christopher Davis along with his business partner John “Sparky” Pearson.

But let’s get to those mouth-watering gourmet burgers shall we?

Well, before we get to the burgers – we must first pay tribute to the delicious brisket queso we started out with topped with smoked brisket, a Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce and cilantro. The brisket and BBQ sauce lent a subtle sweetness to offset the gentle kick of the queso and I pretty much just wanted a big bowl of it and a spoon.

I then seriously debated ordering one of their menu’s new burgers – the Spirit of a Hero which is a monstrous burger topped with Texas Mac ‘n Cheese, bacon, spinach, tomato and red onion. But what really tempted me was the $2.00 from each sale that gets donated to SpiritOfAHero.org. As a veteran myself, that one tugged at my heart strings.

But I ended up with the Stevie which is topped with blue cheese, bacon and Frank’s Hot Sauce. And let me tell you – it definitely had some kick to it with that hot sauce! But the patty was perfectly cooked and the proportions were right on.

Kari went with the Ready Freddie with its Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce, bacon, griddled onions and pickles. It was saucy in all the right ways and you can never go wrong with griddled onions in my opinion!

And to accompany our burgers, we ordered some of their garlic Parmesan fries which were not too crispy and not too thick and were to die for dipped in their House Dipping Sauce which is kind of a unique twist on a Thousand Island.

But our waitress told us that their “Not-Burger” burgers are not to be overlooked with choices like their lamb burger with feta, spinach and house mayo as well as their veggie burger topped with pepper jack cheese and spinach.

And after you’re finished eating, its just fun to walk around and look at all the eclectic decor like the chandelier made of beer bottles, the “Island of Misfit Instruments” above the downstairs bar and the wall dedicated to all recording artists who attended the University of North Texas at some point in their life.

LSA Burger Co. is a great place to head for lunch or to spend a weekend evening, sitting at the bar enjoying one of their craft beers and listening to the live music. And situated in the middle of Denton Square, there’s so much to walk around and see – lots of cool stores, restaurants, coffee shops, etc.

We’re excited to bring you more road-trip restaurants about once a month and we highly encourage you to get out and try these places! We promise you they’ll be worth the extra few minutes in the car.

Have a great weekend, Foodies and go eat a burger!
