If you’ve been reading our blog for the last year or so, you know how excited our team has been for the Moviehouse & Eatery at Lakeside DFW to open. And with today being the Grand Opening, we obviously couldn’t dream of featuring anyone else in this week’s Foodie Friday!
I had the opportunity to get a sneak peek inside the Moviehouse earlier this week and to talk to their Director of Operations about what makes the Moviehouse & Eatery different from other dine-in movie theaters.
Now, I’ll be the first to confess that I haven’t been in many dine-in theaters myself, so the whole concept was incredible to me! The idea that I can watch a movie on their wall-to-wall screens in an incredibly comfortable leather recliner and order food from my seat at the click of a button is pretty neat.
The Moviehouse & Eatery is privately-owned and Lakeside DFW is their third location with the other two in Austin and Keller. And they’re also working on a fourth location opening late 2016 in McKinney. As a privately-owned company, their goal is to create a family-friendly environment where everyone feels comfortable coming to enjoy the latest blockbuster while also dining on some great food.
And they do make it incredibly easy for people of every age to come see movies. Every Monday is “Mommy Monday” where moms can bring their infants and young families. Tuesday mornings they offer a Summer Kids Camp where they screen free showings of popular previously-released animated movies. It’s first-come, first-serve though so be sure to get there early! And Wednesdays they host what they call “Well-Seasoned Wednesdays’ when all showings are $6.00 for seniors aged 65 and older.
What truly makes the Moviehouse & Eatery unique is that all of their food is created from scratch in their full-service kitchen, where they smoke their own meats, bake their own breads and make all of their own sauces. And their full-service bar is great for enjoying a drink before, during or after your movie.
Now, unfortunately the kitchen was closed the day I went, but I can tell you about some of their most popular dishes. Whether you’re in the mood for traditional movie fare or something a little more gourmet, the Moviehouse has got you covered.
You can order their Seasonal Date Plate which comes with a combination of sharp cheddar, Asiago, triple cream Brie, fresh mozzarella and prosciutto cheeses and is served with chile-marinated mango, tomato-peach chutney, fresh tomatoes and a balsamic reduction. It’s the perfect appetizer for two!
Or you can go with one of their house-made pizzas, made with an herbed pizza dough and scratch-made sauces. Their Veggie Supreme Pizza looks delicious as it comes topped with a pumpkin seed pesto, spinach, portabella mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, red bell peppers & jalapenos.
They also serve some classic American food with a twist like steak burgers and all-beef hot dogs. I’m personally dying to try their ATX Tommy hot dog which comes served on a pretzel bun and is topped with a horseradish aioli, chopped bacon and queso blanco.
If you’re looking for something a little more refined, you can go with their Pork Cutlet, lightly breaded and seared, and served with a vegetable lemon risotto and a smoked cherry gastrique.
And, of course, there are plenty of sweet treats to choose from like classic Root Beer floats, Icees, fresh baked cookies and their fudge mascarpone brownie.
While we didn’t get to try any of their food while we were there, we are happy to announce that we are heading to their Grand Opening for a movie this evening, so we’ll be sure to report back on our experiences with their food! I cannot wait to get my taste buds on some of this stuff!
We’re so excited to have the Moviehouse & Eatery here in our community and hope you all head out soon to show our support for this new business. It’s a truly beautiful facility at a reasonable price-point for the experience. And with their family-friendly environment, it’s a great place to take the whole family this weekend or to head on date night!
Have a great weekend, Foodies and go see a movie!
