For months, our Lantana Foodies have been urging us to find our way out to the Bartonville Town Center to eat at Palermo’s Italian Cafe and feature it on Foodie Friday. So, this week we did just that! And we want to give a big shout-out to all of those Lantana Foodies because our meal was absolutely delicious!
You may not expect to find a wholly authentic Italian restaurant in a small town like Bartonville, but Palermo’s is truly a taste of the “soul of Italy” right here in our local area.
Palermo’s has been serving its authentic Sicilian dishes to residents of DFW since 1993 when owner, Fay Krasniqi, opened the original location in Fort Worth. Fay’s restaurant became a quick favorite among the people and food critics of Fort Worth, receiving a wealth of compliments on her own personal recipes.
Then after several years of operating in Fort Worth, Fay and her family moved out to the suburbs to allow her children to attend school in Argyle, which is why she then reopened Palermo’s right here in our territory! And let me tell you – Fort Worth’s loss is our gain! But the move hasn’t stopped some of Fay’s most loyal Fort Worth customers from continuing to visit her restaurant. If that doesn’t speak to how incredible and authentic her food is, I don’t know what does.
It was difficult for us to choose which dishes to sample from the long list of wonderful-sounding options on the menu, so with the help of Fay, we ordered some of their most popular and raved-about items to feature here.
We first started out with some Bruschetta and their well-known Stuffed Mushrooms filled with crab meat and four different cheeses and then topped with a delicious cream sauce. If I had wanted to, I’m sure I could have made a meal out of just the stuffed mushrooms and been completely satisfied. These things alone are worth coming back for!
As we ordered our entrees, we went with some traditional Italian favorites like the baked ziti and baked lasagna as well as some of Palermo’s specialties like the Chicken Piccatta and the Chicken Siciliana. Each of one of them were incredibly delicious and truly did transport me overseas to Italy.
But my absolute favorite dish we ordered was the Fettucini Modo Mio made with mushrooms, artichokes, Canadian bacon and a vodka sauce. The mushrooms and artichokes added just the right amount of freshness to the creaminess of the vodka sauce. And the Canadian bacon provided the perfect amount of salt. I will be coming back often for this dish!
And Fay wouldn’t let us leave without trying some of her authentic Italian desserts like the Tiramisu and her amazing cannoli. The pastry dough was crisp and perfectly flaky and the filling was so creamy and had just the right amount of sweetness.
I truly loved getting to meet Fay and experience her recipes this week. She is such an incredible person to talk to with her wealth of life experience. She actually speaks 9 languages and spent some of the early years of her life traveling throughout Europe soaking up the languages, cultures and foods she experienced. Which I think just makes her a better chef and restaurant-owner today!
So, next time you’re in the mood for some seriously delicious and authentic Sicilian cuisine, be sure to keep Palermo’s in mind and head out to the Bartonville Town Center to pay Fay a visit! And remember, be sure to tell her that Jay Marks was the one who sent you!
