Community Update: 28th Annual Highland Village Balloon Festival

It’s time for one of my all-time favorite local annual events – the Highland Village Balloon Festival! And it’s slated to happen this weekend, August 14-16 at Unity Park in Highland Village!

If you’re in need of a family-friendly weekend, this is a wonderful event for you to add to your calendars! The gates open Friday evening at 5:00 with a Kids Zone, live music, tethered balloon rides, the opening ceremony and the balloon “glow” from 8:30-8:45pm.

Then on Saturday there’s the 5K and 1K races, a car show featuring around 100 classic cars, more live music and another balloon “glow” starting at 8:30pm.

And the festivities wrap up on Sunday with a pancake breakfast, wiener dog races and more tethered balloon rides.

You can check out the full schedule of events for the weekend by clicking here.

Put on by the Lions Club, proceeds from the festival benefit their mission to serve – this year they’ll be using the funds to send four children with disabilities to attend the Texas Lions Camps in Kerrville.

There’s lots to do and it’s all for a great cause, so head out to Highland Village this weekend to take part in this wonderful event!

Community Update: 27th Annual Highland Village Balloon Festival

BalloonFest_webheaderThis weekend is time for what I think is one of the coolest local events of the year – The 27th Annual Highland Village Balloon Festival presented by The Lions Club.

The Highland Village Balloon Festival is a community tradition that began in 1987. Since the first festival, the event has grown to be the largest scheduled event in Denton County with more than 25,000 attendees. The balloon festival serves as a fundraiser for the Lions Club with proceeds from the event going towards free vision and hearing screenings for preschool and daycare kids.

9569695461_a109126af6_oYou’ll most certainly want to head over to Unity Park this Friday through Sunday, August 15-17 to enjoy a “high-flying weekend of fun, food and festivities!”

The gates to the event open Friday evening at 5:00pm with arts and crafts, a food court, bands playing sets on the main stage, tethered balloon rides and a Balloon Glow at 8:30.

Saturday you can head over bright and early for a pancake breakfast at 6:00am and then can enjoy tethered balloon rides, the Hot Air 5K & 1K Fun Run, a classic car show, more bands that evening and another Balloon Glow at 8:30pm.

Wiener-logo-2014_nodateAnd on Sunday, they’re introducing a new event to this year’s celebration – from 8:00am-Noon on Sunday there will be Wiener Dog Races! Yes, you read that correctly. Who wouldn’t want to head out to watch these adorable pups “race” down the race lanes toward their owners using squeaky toys to entice them to cross the finish line? Hysterical.

You can click here to head to the Balloon Fest website where you can check out which balloons will be there and to find out more information about the specific activities and special events.

082011-balloon-festivalIt’s a great celebration that offers attendees close proximity to the balloons that they might not experience at other larger events. Watching the 21 balloons prep, light and lift off for the evening Balloon Glows is an awesome experience that everyone in your family will love, so be sure to make time to attend this weekend!

And be sure to take lots of pictures and share them with us so we can see them!
