Foodie Friday: Local Restaurants Featured in DFW’s 20th Annual Restaurant Week

It’s one of my favorite weeks of the year! Monday marks the official beginning of DFW’s 20th Annual Restaurant Week. The 3-week event benefits the North Texas Food Bank and Lena Pope Home. Last year they were able to raise $711,000!

You can make all of your reservations on OpenTable. And you can make reservations at as many restaurants as you think you can visit during those 3 weeks! Just be sure to check which dates each restaurant is participating.

You’ll enjoy special two- or three-course, prixe-fixe meals at each restaurant and the cost is $20 for lunch and $39 or $49 for dinner.

And the most exciting part is that we have several Foodie Friday restaurants who are participating in this year’s event! Check out the local restaurants who are participating below.

Bistecca – An Italian Steakhouse

You can join Chef Morris Salerno for a truly special dining experience. They’ll be serving an option Calloway course for an additional $5, two salmon dish options for the first course, either Black Drum or a Akaushi beef brisket for the main entree, and either strawberry pie or chocolate mousse for dessert.

Bistecca is participating during the Preview Weekend (this weekend!) as well as all next week (August 7-13). The cost for the three-course dinner is $49 or $69 with their recommended wines. Make your reservations here!

Carvao Prime Brazilian Steakhouse

Or you can check out Carvao in Lakeside DFW. They have a fantastic salad bar with 60+ items to choose from. But the best part is enjoying their 16 cuts of meat served tableside.

Carvao also has a fantastic wine list and bar offering drinks for before, during and after your meal.

They are offering a $49 dinner and are participating from August 7-13. Make your reservations here!

Prime Farm to Table

Flower Mound’s Contemporary American restaurant, Prime Farm to Table, offers customers truly unique dining experiences. Chef Chris Flahaven is constantly coming up with special dishes to serve his customers to allow them to try things they never have before.

Prime Farm to Table is serving dishes on their prixe-fixe menu like Chilled Melon Soup, Grilled Spanish Octopus, Ricotta Gnocchi, 24 Hour Short Ribs, Olive Oil Cake and Chocolate Terrine.

They are participating from August 7-20 and their 3-course meal will be $39 per person or $55 per person with paired wines. Make your reservation here!

Yellow Rose Steak and Chop House

You can also check out another one of Flower Mound’s steak houses, Yellow Rose Steak and Chop House, in Parker Square.

Yellow Rose will be serving dishes like a Citrus Summer Salad, Char Grilled Salmon and Shrimp, 10 oz Prime Rib, and Bread Pudding.

They are participating all three weeks of the event (August 7-26) and are offering both special lunch and dinner menus. Make your reservation here!

Foodie Friday: Gabriela & Sofia’s Spicing Things Up in Parker Square

When new restaurants come to Flower Mound, we often try to give them a few weeks to settle in before we talk about how great they are and encourage our Foodie fans to visit them en masse. That being said, we had a really hard time resisting featuring Flower Mound’s newest restaurant, Gabriela & Sofia’s, on our blog for as long as we did.

The new Parker Square restaurant has enjoyed a fabulous first few weeks, receiving excellent feedback and support from the local community. And we were glad to sit down with co-owner Gabriel Pompareyna and learn more about his story and his restaurant.

Gabriel hails from Mexico where he grew up learning how to prepare his family’s favorite recipes. And restaurant-ownership actually runs in his blood! His father runs his own restaurant down in Oaxaca, Mexico, which is where Gabriel gets inspiration for many of the recipes he serves at Gabriela & Sofia’s.

The Parker Square location of Gabriela & Sofia’s (named for the owners’ daughters) is actually their second – with the first being located off of North Central Expressway near Northpark Mall in Dallas. The owners were looking for a way to expand their restaurant, and when they heard about this spot, they felt like opening up a second location a little further north would be great for their business.

Customers who have been long-time fans of the restaurant were thrilled to learn about their expansion, and residents of Flower Mound have certainly been pleased with their opening here as well!

They kept some of the same design elements from the previous tenant, Taco Brone, but added a little of their own flair as well. One of the elements you’ll be very happy to hear stayed behind from Taco Brone is the unique beer tap which actually fills the glasses from the bottom up. That means no foamy top and more beer for your buck!

When you first sit down at Gabriela & Sofia’s you’re greeted with chips and their trio of salsas including a classic tomato salsa, a creamy tomatillo salsa, and a salsa verde that is delicious and spicy. We opted to complement our chips and salsa with an order of their tableside guacamole which can be prepared just the way you want it – mild, medium, or hot.

Gabriel then served us an array of their entrees – some more classic Tex-Mex dishes and some a little more authentically Mexican.

Their Steak Fajitas were amazing. Truly some of the best fajitas I’ve ever tasted. The ribeye was incredibly tender, and the veggies that accompanied the meat were perfectly sautéed.

We also sampled their Brisket Enchiladas (the meat was again so tender and delicious); their Mi Puebla Salad (inspired by where Gabriel grew up); and their Camarones a la Diabla (shrimp prepared in a spicy chili guajillo and served with satueed veggies and rice). ‘

Gabriel and his staff refused to let us leave without trying some of their most popular desserts – the Churros and their Tres Leches Cake. I cannot even tell you how incredible both desserts were. Their churros come served with a coconut-pineapple ice cream made by a local ice cream distributor out of Plano. And they…. are… amazing. One of our team members said he would actually come back just based off of the churros and margaritas alone.

Speaking of margaritas, Gabriela & Sofia’s is open for Happy Hour Monday-Thursday from 3:00-7:00pm where you can order one of their top-shelf margaritas made with your choice of tequila. Or you can choose from one of their bottled or draft beers or cocktails.

We’re always happy to welcome another restaurant to the area, and are thrilled to have Gabriela & Sofia’s in Parker Square. If you haven’t been to visit them yet, run – don’t walk!

[CLOSED]Foodie Friday: Taco Brone in Parker Square

We may just have to start calling Flower Mound the “Taco Capital of North Texas” with all of the incredible taco restaurants that have opened in the past year and those still to come in the following months! And as taco-lovers here at Jay Marks Real Estate, we absolutely love it!

Flower Mound’s newest taqueria is Taco Brone in Parker Square which serves high-quality a la carte tacos and also has an amazing assortment of beers on tap and margaritas.

We also love the vibe of this restaurant! The colors are bright and there are lots of cool things to look at around the restaurant. And boy did this place ever draw a lunch crowd! Apparently we are not the only ones who love their tacos!

They have a great selection of tacos to choose from – everything from chicken to fish to beef to pork to vegetarian. I think we tried about half of their menu while we were there and were definitely digging what we ordered!

We tried out some of their most popular tacos including the Al Pastor made with shaved pork; the Brisketo made with Guadalajara style barbacoa; the Ensenada Fish topped with a piece of hand-battered cod; and the White Wing which comes served with a piece of bacon-wrapped (!!) chicken breast and topped with jalapeno, pico de gallo and house made ranch dressing.

We also ordered the Salchichon which comes with a bacon-wrapped jalapeno & cheddar sausage, pico de gallo, cheddar cheese, chipotle aioli and cilantro; and the Alambre which is marinated arrachera steak, grilled bell peppers/onion/tomatoes and salsa churri.

(Told you we ordered a lot!)

We all sampled a little bit of everything, and the flavors were all fantastic and distinct. I love the fresh taste of all their toppings as well as the tenderness of their meats.

And while we didn’t get to sample any of their queso or desserts, we’ve heard incredible things about those as well! People have been raving about their poblano queso, their churros and their sopapillas since they opened, so I guess we know what we’ll be making room for next time we go back!

Customers have also fallen in love with Taco Brone’s beers and margaritas. Their beers are served with a truly unique tap that you need to see in person to believe! And from what we hear, beer connoisseurs are loving it!

We have no doubt that Taco Brone will continue to quickly become a local hot spot for residents and are thrilled to have them here in our community! If you haven’t been able to check them out since they opened their doors a few weeks ago, we highly recommend you get over there immediately! With so many options to choose from, everyone in your group is sure to find something they love about this place.

*Taco Brone is located at 930 Parker Square Rd, Flower Mound 75028.

Jay Around Town: FloMo Food Truck Fest on October 9th

As a Foodie, I’m always on the lookout for awesome local “foodie” events to attend. Last year Flower Mound hosted their first ever Food Truck Fest, and it’s coming back again this year!

The 2nd Annual FloMo Food Truck Fest will take place Sunday, October 9th from 11:00am-6:00pm in Parker Square and will feature a wide variety of food trucks. You’ll be able to find everything from tacos to barbecue to pizza to Maine lobster to sweet treats like sno cones and ice cream.

In addition to all the delicious food trucks, there will also be more than 50 vendors offering all kinds of great items to buy as well as three different bands playing in the the Parker Square gazebo throughout the day.

And if you’re worried about entertaining your kids while you’re walking around chowing down on some tasty food, have no fear – there will also be  Kids’ Zone!

Foodie Friday: A Slice of New York in Flower Mound, TX at Enzo’s Pizzeria

Whenever I get a hankering for some real New-York style pizza, there are only a couple spots in town that I go to, and one of those in Enzo’s NY Pizzeria located in Parker Square of Flower Mound.

This week we celebrated a couple of birthdays in our office and Enzo invited us over to enjoy some birthday pizza.

Any time I walk into Enzo’s, I’m always immediately greeted by either Enzo or Dino (depending on who’s working out front that day), and I love it! It’s like being part of one, big, happy pizza family. And I love that I see them treat all of their customers exactly the same way. Everyone who walks through those doors feels like they’re part of the Enzo family.

Enzo’s is a big hit with the lunch crowd – especially for students at NCTC in Parker Square and our local police force! But they offer a fantastic lunch special that’s hard to beat! Whenever I go in for lunch, I always love to order their special that comes with a slice of the pizza of your choice, a side salad and a drink. And it’s hard to go wrong no matter which pizza you choose – the Supreme, Meat Lover, Hawaiian, Veggie, whatever!

And it’s true New-York style pizza too, with a thin and floppy crust just the way it should be.

But Enzo’s serves more than just delicious pizza. One of my all-time favorite things on their menu is the Fried Ravioli. Nothing too fancy about it – it’s just what it sounds like. Cheese ravioli fried to perfection and served with a fresh tomato sauce. SO DELICIOUS.

Enzo’s also serves a fantastic variety of traditional Italian pasta dishes like spaghetti, manicotti, lasagna, ziti and tortellini. Or you can choose one of their calzones or hot/cold subs.

And if you’ve got a sweet tooth like we do, you can’t go wrong with one of their authentic cannolis. Stuffed to the maximum and drizzled with chocolate. Enzo brought one out for our birthday gals this week and we had no problem gobbling it right up!

I truly love having Enzo’s NY Pizzeria here in our area, and I know a lot of you out there do too! But if you haven’t had a chance to try out their food yet, do it this weekend! They also offer delivery and carry-out, so just give them a call to place your order.

Thanks for making our birthday girls feel special this week, Enzo’s! We appreciate your friendship and, of course, your delicious food!

*Enzo’s NY Pizzeria is located at 900 Parker Square #990, Flower Mound TX 75028.
