Foodie Friday: National Donut Day at Sara’s Donuts

Happy ‘National Donut Day’ Foodies! Today we decided to revisit a donut shop that we blogged about last year, Sara’s Donuts. Home to everyone in Flower Mound’s favorite donuts located just off of 2499. And yes, you can guess it… we did not hold back when it came time for us to celebrate.

From the decorations, the electric decor, and the friendly staff everything seemed to be in place and ready to serve all of Flower Mound’s donut cravings for the big day. But, what we didn’t see was the preparation Sara and her staff put into every donut and decoration. We talked to Sara and she admitted to us that she had gotten into the store at 1 AM that morning to begin making the donuts to make sure every single one was perfect.

When we got there this morning at 7:15 we were expecting a line and a short wait, but what we saw was nothing short of a donut miracle. A line stretched itself out of the door and wrapped alongside the sidewalk. But, the funniest part was that everyone in the line had the same face that seemed to be a mixture of excitement, hunger, and an envy of every person that walked out with their arms full of the delectable donuts.

When it was our turn to order donuts we talked to Sara herself and she said that in just a couple hours they had already sold more than 3,000 donuts!  She said it was mostly the original type of donuts (glazed, sprinkles or old fashioned) that had been going, but mentioned that other crowd favorites include: Creme Brulee, Red Velvet, Salted Caramel, Maple Bacon, and the S’mores.

However, no matter which donut you most craved you were sure to receive a fluffy and sweet treat that was just right for you.

Sara is a huge contributor to the community and has donated countless hours, money, and donuts to charities in Flower Mound. She even donated to this years Easter Sunrise Service on the actual Flower Mound. Sara is a loving person whom we adore and appreciate for all she does for our town.

We know all these pictures have your mouth watering. So, the next time you want to be “Employee of the Day” at the office or treat the kids to something special on the weekend, definitely head to Sara Donuts to try out some of their incredible breakfast options and to meet their friendly staff!

You just might see us while you’re there… picking up donuts for our own office!

Foodie Friday: Happy National Donut Day!

This week I handed the reins over to our resident doughnut expert, Kari, in honor of National Donut Day today. The first Friday each June brings National Donut Day, and to Kari, this is the truly one of the best holidays of the year! So, she compiled a list of some of the best doughnut spots she’s discovered in DFW in an effort to help you better celebrate this Foodie holiday.

Sara Donuts

2201 Long Prairie Rd, Flower Mound TX 75022

We’ll start out close to home with Sara Donuts right here in Flower Mound. Sara and her doughnut shop have truly become an institution in our community, and it’s because of the cheery atmosphere and her unique and delicious doughnut and pastry selection.

Sara serves everything from favorites like glazed yeast and chocolate sprinkled to some more unique options like Greek Yogurt frosted doughnuts and their S’mores doughnut.

Sara also recently started serving Croissant Donuts and Crossiant Donut Holes filled with jelly.

We’re grateful for Sara and the joy she brings Flower Mound through her doughnut artistry. As Sara say, “Doughnuts give you endorphins and endorphins make you happy!”

Kari’s Favorite: The Chocolate Mousse Doughnut

Jarams Doughnuts

17459 Preston Rd, Dallas TX 75252

Located in North Dallas, Jarams is another well-known and delicious doughnut option to explore. They operate according to the philosophy that everyone who steps into their store becomes like family. And they only want to serve the best to their family!

Their doughnuts are the definition of fresh and fluffy, and they have a wide assortment of doughnuts including:  Croissant Donuts which come with a variety of toppings including cream cheese and fruit, powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar; specialty donuts including Maple Bacon, M&M’s; and traditional favorites like glazed cake and yeast.

Kari’s Favorite: The Croissant Doughnut topped with cream cheese and strawberries.

Glazed Donut Works

2644 Elm St, Dallas TX 75226

This Deep Ellum doughnut shop operates according to a very unique model – they’re open during the mornings like your traditional doughnut store, but then re-open with a completely different late-night menu from 9:00pm-2:00am on Thursdays through Saturdays.

And you have to act quickly to get one of their doughnut creations – they post their daily menu each day on their Facebook page, and only make a certain amount of each flavor, so once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Some of their unique creations include Donut Ice Cream Sandwich, Vegan Raspberry, Creme Brulee, Saigon Cinnamon Sugar, and Vanilla Bean Glazed.

Whether you head for a morning or late-night doughnut, you’re sure to enjoy what Glazed Donut Works has to offer!

Kari’s Favorite: Donut Grilled Cheese (trust us).

Hypnotic Donuts

Dallas: 9007 Garland Rd, Dallas TX 75218

Denton: 235 W Hickory, Denton TX 76201

Many of you have probably heard of Hypnotic Donuts before with their locations in Dallas and Denton. In addition to the fresh-made donuts in a variety of flavors, Hypnotic is also well-known for their Chicken Biscuits made with in-house fried chicken and a Texas-sized biscuit.

Some of their well-known, unique donut flavors include the Evil Elvis made with peanut butter, bacon, banana and honey and the Ski Accident which is a yeast raised long john filled with raspberry jelly and rolled in powdered sugar.

Kari’s Favorite: Plain Ol’ Glazed Yeast Raised (Their process has earned them the title of “best glazed donut in Dallas” by D Magazine.)

We know there are certainly plenty of other great donut spots in the Metroplex, so be sure to comment below if there’s a place you love that wasn’t on our list! Kari’s always on the search for the next best donut!

Foodie Friday: Investigating the Hype at Sara Donuts

Ok, ok… after months and months of following threads about Sara Donuts in Flower Mound, we finally decided to put our diets to the side for one morning and head over to the local doughnut shop off of FM 2499 to see what all the hype is about.

And I will tell you, the hype is totally deserved! I LOVE this local doughnut shop with its eclectic decor, bright colors, friendly and chipper staff and the sense of community this place has created within Flower Mound.

Many of you probably heard how the doughnut shop was featured on WFAA during our ice/snow storms last week as local resident, Travis Duane, bought out all the doughnuts the shop’s owner, Faith Ko, had to offer and delivered them to strangers, neighbors, and fellow doughnut-enthusiasts who weren’t willing to brave the weather themselves!

But seriously… why have people gone so crazy over these doughnuts? What makes them so unique? First of all – like I mentioned, its the atmosphere and the staff who really make the experience pleasurable. But it’s also their unique mix of delicious doughnut options!

I knew we finally had to make a visit to Sara Donuts after they posted a picture of their new Chocolate Mousse Doughnut on Facebook… it just looked too good to resist!

But they have all kinds of great options every morning for you to choose from including some original favorites like plain yeast glazed or chocolate-sprinkled as well as some more unique options like a gluten-free Strawberry Shortcake and Greek Yogurt frosted doughnuts with toppings like fruit, granola or cereal! Other crowd favorites include: Creme Brulee, Red Velvet, Salted Caramel, Maple Bacon, and the S’mores.

But no matter which doughnut you choose to go with, you’ll experience something so fluffy and delicious – and it will provide just the right amount of sweetness to get your day going!

And doughnuts aren’t even all they offer – you can also choose from other non-doughnut options like breakfast burritos, kolaches or one of their hot or cold beverages!

I know all these pictures have your mouth watering. So, the next time you want to be “Employee of the Day” at the office or treat the kids to something special on the weekend, definitely head to Sara Donuts to try out some of their incredible breakfast options and to meet their friendly staff!

You just might see us while you’re there… picking up doughnuts for our own office!

Have a great weekend Foodies – put your own diet off for one morning and treat yourself to a doughnut! It’s ok… I give you permission.
