Foodie Friday: Local Restaurants Featured in DFW’s 20th Annual Restaurant Week

It’s one of my favorite weeks of the year! Monday marks the official beginning of DFW’s 20th Annual Restaurant Week. The 3-week event benefits the North Texas Food Bank and Lena Pope Home. Last year they were able to raise $711,000!

You can make all of your reservations on OpenTable. And you can make reservations at as many restaurants as you think you can visit during those 3 weeks! Just be sure to check which dates each restaurant is participating.

You’ll enjoy special two- or three-course, prixe-fixe meals at each restaurant and the cost is $20 for lunch and $39 or $49 for dinner.

And the most exciting part is that we have several Foodie Friday restaurants who are participating in this year’s event! Check out the local restaurants who are participating below.

Bistecca – An Italian Steakhouse

You can join Chef Morris Salerno for a truly special dining experience. They’ll be serving an option Calloway course for an additional $5, two salmon dish options for the first course, either Black Drum or a Akaushi beef brisket for the main entree, and either strawberry pie or chocolate mousse for dessert.

Bistecca is participating during the Preview Weekend (this weekend!) as well as all next week (August 7-13). The cost for the three-course dinner is $49 or $69 with their recommended wines. Make your reservations here!

Carvao Prime Brazilian Steakhouse

Or you can check out Carvao in Lakeside DFW. They have a fantastic salad bar with 60+ items to choose from. But the best part is enjoying their 16 cuts of meat served tableside.

Carvao also has a fantastic wine list and bar offering drinks for before, during and after your meal.

They are offering a $49 dinner and are participating from August 7-13. Make your reservations here!

Prime Farm to Table

Flower Mound’s Contemporary American restaurant, Prime Farm to Table, offers customers truly unique dining experiences. Chef Chris Flahaven is constantly coming up with special dishes to serve his customers to allow them to try things they never have before.

Prime Farm to Table is serving dishes on their prixe-fixe menu like Chilled Melon Soup, Grilled Spanish Octopus, Ricotta Gnocchi, 24 Hour Short Ribs, Olive Oil Cake and Chocolate Terrine.

They are participating from August 7-20 and their 3-course meal will be $39 per person or $55 per person with paired wines. Make your reservation here!

Yellow Rose Steak and Chop House

You can also check out another one of Flower Mound’s steak houses, Yellow Rose Steak and Chop House, in Parker Square.

Yellow Rose will be serving dishes like a Citrus Summer Salad, Char Grilled Salmon and Shrimp, 10 oz Prime Rib, and Bread Pudding.

They are participating all three weeks of the event (August 7-26) and are offering both special lunch and dinner menus. Make your reservation here!

Yellow Rose Steak and Chop House

Yellow Rose is currently fundraising for the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research by selling their limited edition 4 Foxes Chardonnay. It’s a Russian River Valley (Sonoma) chardonnay created by Rick Tigner, the president of Jackson Family Wines. The winery’s profit on every bottle sold goes to the MJFF and so Yellow Rose has decided to donate $1/glass and $2/bottle to the Foundation as well. They’re also accepting any other donations patrons may wish to give!

In addition to that awesome fundraiser, they’ll FINALLY be having their ribbon cutting this Tuesday, September 9th at 10:00am with the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce. A long time coming, but glad to see it finally happen for the new owners!

Yellow Rose is also working on a new wine and bar menu, as well as a new dinner menu they’ll be releasing in a month or so. They’re not disclosing any information about the new dinner menu, but have told us that they’re adding Snow Crab Claws served with a drawn butter to the appetizer menu as well as a new signature mac-n-cheese with some sort of seafood.

Lots of exciting things happening at Yellow Rose Steak and Chop House, so head over to Parker Square for a beautiful meal this weekend!

Swirl Bakery

Screen Shot 2014-09-03 at 1.35.03 PM

Chris Norwood, owner of Swirl Bakery, has already been getting calls about holiday dinner orders and it’s only September! If you’ve never thought about having your holiday dinner or party catered by Swirl, I would suggest you give them a try! Order some of their strawberry thumbprints or a chocolate cream pie and your holiday guests are sure to leave full and happy!

They’ve got their Thanksgiving Menu and Order Form all ready, so give them a call as soon as possible to place your order as orders are limited. You can get everything from a Complete Turkey Dinner with Cornbread Dressing and Cranberry Sauce to Holiday add-ons like mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and macaroni & cheese. All orders must be placed by Monday, November 24th and picked up the day before Thanksgiving.

This gets me in the holiday spirit (as much as is possible) and I love it!

Fat Cow BBQ

Fat Cow BBQ 02

My mouth still waters when I think about the incredible food we had at Fat Cow BBQ (especially that homemade peach cobbler), so I can’t wait to get back out there to try some of their new menu items! They recently started offering loaded sliders and tacos with sour cream, cheese and coleslaw that have been a huge hit!

They’re also excited to announce that they’ve secured another location on the corner of MacArthur and Round Grove in Lewisville that they hope to have open by the end of this year!

Foodie Friday: Celebrate Father’s Day in Style at Yellow Rose Steak & Chop House

photo 2(23)

Not to send anyone into a panic or anything, but this Sunday is Father’s Day. So, a happy Father’s Day to all of our Foodie Fathers out there!

We wanted to feature a restaurant this week where you can go to get a hearty man’s meal this weekend, so we decided to dine at Yellow Rose Steak & Chop House in Parker Square. This restaurant offers a wonderful quiet and serene environment, serving delicious food off of the busy, beaten path of Flower Mound.

photo 5(11)

While we were dining, we had the chance to talk to owner, Svetlana Schoggins about how she and her husband, Sky, came to own Yellow Rose. Svetlana is actually an accountant by trade who happens to love to cook. After being a stay-at-home mom for several years, she and her husband began looking for a local business they could get into so that she could maintain her sanity. In December of 2013, they stumbled upon Yellow Rose and decided to purchase the restaurant because of their love of food.

photo 4(21)

Svetlana and Sky have a great staff to support them. Chef Saul and the rest of his team work to bring wonderful dishes and drinks made from scratch to diners. At Yellow Rose, you’ll enjoy several homemade items made with the purest ingredients. They make their own ranch dressing, bacon and never use artificial lemon/lime juice in drinks at the bar. It’s all made with fresh ingredients.

So, what wonderful dishes did we order? We started off with one of their most popular appetizers, the prime rib crostinis. The prime rib was perfectly tender and had a wonderful flavor to it, and was served over toasted bread and spread.

photo 4(20)

Because I was the only man at lunch, I ordered a filet accompanied by Yellow Rose’s most famous side, Potatoes Dauphinoise, which are kind of like scalloped potatoes (and were delicious). And then I was also served the biggest asparagus I have ever seen. Each spear was literally as big around as a nickel and was cooked to perfection. Unfortunately Svetlana told me I wouldn’t be able to find asparagus like that at the grocery store. Well played, Svetlana. Now you’ve got me where I have to keep coming back for more.

photo 3(19)

Kari ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with house made French fries. She said the chicken was beautifully marinated and had a great flavor which was just enhanced by the fresh tomatoes, lettuce, honey mustard and applewood smoked bacon.

photo 5(9)

And then our friend and client ordered the Southwest Chicken Salad which is blackened chicken served over a bed of greens with black beans, corn and pico de gallo. And she added avocado to it which I thought was an excellent choice.

photo 4(18)

And of course we couldn’t go without dessert, so we ordered one of their specialties, the Chocolate Cake Tower for Two. It was an absolutely beautiful piece of cake that was moist and had a wonderful rich flavor. And it was HUGE. We definitely ended up taking the majority of it home with us.

photo 1(20)

For Father’s Day this weekend, Yellow Rose is serving a special bacon-themed menu that you just have to try. It includes great items like Sweet & Sour Bacon Wrapped Pineapple, Loaded Potato Soup, Bacon Wrapped Filets and a Dark Chocolate Bacon Cake (which sounds intriguing and incredible – so if someone tries it, I want to hear all about it).

photo 5(10)

If you want to treat the husband/father/grandfather in your life to a wonderful steak dinner or lunch this weekend, I would definitely suggest you try out Yellow Rose Steak & Chop House. The staff are so kind and the atmosphere is perfect for spending some quality time with family. You can even reserve their private event space!

If you do go try out their bacon-themed menu this weekend, I want to hear what you had and what you thought. I’m really wishing I had tried that bacon-wrapped pineapple and the dark chocolate bacon cake now… I’m just going to have to live vicariously through some of you!

And be sure to tell Svetlana and Sky that you read all about them on the blog!

Again, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend spending time with those you love most. Happy Father’s Day, Foodies!
